Ashes of Creation’s Kickstarter Sets New Record

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the upcoming MMORPG Ashes of Creation. The game brings innovation to the stale genre and includes an incredible amount of content. I honestly can’t wait for the game to release, and it seems I’m not alone.

Intrepid Studios’ AoC Kickstarter not only reached its initial goal of $750,000 in less than 12 hours, it more than quadrupled it by the end of its campaign; raising a massive $3,271,809. This staggering achievement actually broke a record, making Ashes of Creation the most funded MMO on Kickstarter of all time. The campaign also claimed a spot in the top funded video games as well, landing in 7th place. Over 19,000 individual contributions were made to the project during its campaign.

Backers also managed to unlock all stretch and backer goals exclusive to the campaign. Among the most notable are the ninth playable “Underrealm” race and an ingame stock exchange financial system. Certain backers will receive Alpha and/or Beta access, granting them access to the game during its development.

No official release date has been announced yet for Ashes of Creation. The Kickstarter campaign lists December 2018 as the estimated delivery date for backer rewards, but this is subject to change and in no way reflects a possible launch date. The best source for updates will continue to be AoC’s website, which posts updates and hosts a community forum. Intrepid also streams regular Q&A and developer updates on their Twitch channel.

I dub thee “Cuddles”, bane of gatherers.

The hype around AoC continues to build daily, but we must remain cautious. Plenty of MMOs have generated hype before only to fail miserably or be cancelled altogether. Hopefully the team at Intrepid has learned from the mistakes of the these failed projects. I remain hopeful that this game is the MMORPG we have been waiting for, and more importantly the one we deserve.
